"Why do I have to change my plate?" "I like the chickadee." "We voted down the flag, so they're forcing it on our plates." "That doesn't look like a pine tree. It looks more like a Christmas tree with the star on top." We've had lots of feedback on the new license plates, and most people seem to prefer the ol' chickadee. The thing is, the chickadee plates have been issued for more than 25 years!

“License plates need to be easily visible by other drivers, toll authorities, and law enforcement,” said Secretary of State Shenna Bellows. “As anyone driving on Maine roads can see, some of the older Chickadee plates are becoming worn, faded, and difficult or impossible to read, and that presents a real safety issue. But it also presents an opportunity for something fresh and new, and we’re looking forward to the new plates.”

What do YOU think? Do you like the new pine tree plates? Or do you prefer the chickadess?

We have two notaries public here at the town office. Assessor's Assistant Magan Wallace and Finance Director Irene Ames both offer their notary services during business hours here at the town office. This is a service they perform for the benefit of the citizenry; they don't collect fees or get a bonus in their pay. They do it because they're good people. If you need a notary, it's best to call first to make sure one of them is here; and if one is, they're happy to serve you in their notary capacity.

Did you know our very own Office Clerk A is also a drummer? Bill Batty, Jr. spends many weekends traveling the state, a drumset in the back of the "Billy Rhythm" mobile. On Sunday he finally hits the hometown big-time and will be performing at downtown Tenants Harbor's busiest saloon. He probably WON'T be wearing a tie, but you'll be able to identify him behind the #goldsparkleludwigs.

This summer, St. George EMS will be offering community CPR, First Aid, and Stop the Bleed courses. These classes are a great opportunity to learn lifesaving skills and become more prepared to help in emergencies—whether at home, work, or out in the community.

If you are interested in attending or would like to be notified when classes are scheduled, please contact EMS Chief Katie Jacob at 207-372-6122 or k.jacob@stgeorgemaine.com. We’d love to have you join us!

The Resilience Committee Needs Help!

The town of St. George has been successful in getting a grant to write our Climate Action Plan and we want YOUR input.

An early part of the Climate Action Plan (CAP) is in-depth interviews with community organizations, service providers, businesses, and Town staff. These interviews will focus on people's experiences with climate change and extreme weather; what people are experiencing in their homes and businesses; who's first and worst impacted; and who to prioritize, invite and involve in Town actions.

We're looking for 2-3 advisors to (a) suggest people/organizations for CAP Consultants to speak with, (b) make introductions, (c) review early findings. Time commitment: 2-3 hours per month for ~2 months including 2-3 meetings (if/as you are available).

Please consider forwarding this work with a bit of your time. We know the seas are rising all along St. George's shores. Help us manage our response. Contact Susy Ellis at 596-6569 or susyandduke@gmail.com or the town office with questions or to volunteer.

This boat rack was built by Owen Reynolds, Spencer Hilchey, and Chase Edgecomb, students of the St. George School. The intent of the project was to provide more access to one of the town’s best natural resources: the marsh.

• All of the equipement was donated to the town and is free to use. It will remain that way as long as it is used properly.
• PFDs (life jackets) must be worn while on the water
• Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult
• Boats should be returned to the rack and paddles and PFDs to the container after use
• Please report any lost or damaged equipment to the Parks and Rec Director, Ashley Geel. 372-6363

Enjoy your paddle!

The St. George Days festivities kick off today at 3pm with the St. George Municipal Open House. Join us from 3-6pm in the "big room" of the town hall, and chat with the staff. You can learn about the town's new mooring look-up tool, have your blood pressure checked, sign up for text notifications from the town, learn about the revaluation, and complain to the town manager about, well, whatever you want! (He's got big shoulders and a big heart.) The clerks' window at the town office will be closing at 3pm today to accommodate.
