Although not technically town sponsored events, we've received a bunch of enquiries about what's happening on Memorial Day. Our understanding is: •7-9am, pancake breakfast at the Eureka Lodge of Masons •8:30am, parade line-up at Tenants Harbor Baptist Church •9am, parade starts •Immediately after the parade, Memorial Day Ceremonies at the Kinney Melquist Post of the American Legion

May 4 through May 10, 2025 is the 56th Annual Professional Municipal Clerks Week. Initiated in 1969 the week is a time of celebration and reflection on the importance of the Clerk’s office. In 1984, President Ronald Reagan signed a proclamation that officially declared Municipal Clerks Week the first full week of May. In 1994 and 1996, President Bill Clinton also signed proclamations confirming Municipal Clerks Week. Thank you Bill, Magan, Patty, and Tara--we hope you had a great week.

A coyote has been spotted during daylight hours in the Tenants Harbor area. This morning around 8am it was seen crossing the road near the "Welcome II St. George" sign. We've just had another report of it being seen on Watts Ave.

There will be an open house at the Youth and Scouting building at 161 Snows Point Road on Saturday May 10th from 10am-1pm. This would be an excellent opportunity to become informed on ballot item #6 on the May 12th election.

Starting immediately, the transfer station will no longer be charging dump fees to full time and seasonal residents. The dump fees will still be in effect for contractors working within the town. Please have your blue transfer station stickers on your lower passenger side windshield so the attendants can confirm that you are a town resident.

The town of St. George is honored to have presented Ken Jacobson with St. George’s Boston Post Cane. The Boston Post Cane is an ebony cane that is passed down to the oldest resident in town, a tradition that began in 1909. Ken was born on November 24, 1925 and has lived in St. George his entire life. Over a cup of coffee at his kitchen table he recalled the years attending the Long Cove schoolhouse as some of the best years of his life. At the age of 17, he went to work at Bath Iron Works, a commute he made sitting on a box in the back of car with eight other young shipbuilders. At the age of 18, he joined the Army to serve in World War II and was stationed in France, Germany, and Czechoslovakia. When he returned home, he worked as a police officer and in the prison system.

Tomorrow is May 1st. Tomorrow we begin distribution of the new pine tree plate. It's been over 20 years since Maine has done a complete new plate rollout. Deputy Clerk Patty was here for that, and back then everything was recorded on paper! This time of course we're using a computer, and the computer software for this rollout will have a whole new module. That module won't get any real testing until tomorrow! Please bear with us; it's a new system, new information, a new protocol, it's all new. There will be some growing pains. Bring an extra dose of patience when you come to reregister your car.

Other things to bring with you? Your OLD registration. In order to prevent mistakes, you MUST bring your old registration with you. You will also need to bring your insurance card, and accurate mileage. If you have a vanity plate, and you reserved the plate, you should bring the physical plate and the the letter you received with you.

Let's say the Island Institute Fellow lets it slip she's NEVER had a Twinkie! What do you do? That's right, you have a snack cake smorgasbord at the staff meeting. Erin reports "It's not as bad as I thought; it's kinda good."

Earlier this month we announced that our Assessors' Agent would be visiting about 375 properties over the next two months. That hasn't changed. What HAS changed is the day. Instead of working here in St. George on Wednesdays, she's moved her workday to Thursdays. If you have filed for a building permit in the last 24 months it is quite likely she will be stopping by for an inspection some Thursday.
