Did you reserve your vanity plate? Great! Now you've received the plate in the mail, and you're ready to register, yes? BRING THE PLATE WITH YOU! Your friendly St. George clerks are ready to reregister that vehicle for you, but we're required to see the plate. Inside the package is a letter, and the letter says "Bring this letter and plates to your town office." Many people, though, recognize the package as their plates, and they don't even open them so they don't see the letter. So tell your friends, and share this post; if you got a new vanity plate, you're required to show it at the time of renewal.

Assistant Town Manager Tara Elwell. She's amazing. We are so lucky to have her on staff here at the Town of St. George. This woman can (and does) do everything. Need to know the name of the lady who lived next to ol' man McGreedy? Tara can tell you. Need the lyric for any song between 1971 and 2014? Tara can tell you. Need someone to run voting day without hitches? Tara. Lobster stew that people will LINE UP to eat. That's her. Register your boat? Tara can do it. Heck, Tara could pilot your boat; it wouldn't be the first time. Car registrations? Check. Fry cook? Bartender? Hostess? She kills it. Tara's frickin' awesome, and we love her.

Thank you Adam Ezra Group for the stupendous concert last night! Thank you Mark Lipson for organizing the event. And thank you St. George community for turning out and showing incredibly generous support. We raised a shade under $4000, more than enough to complete one of the renovations on our to-do list. It's an incredible start to the fundraising campaign. If you couldn’t attend last night and want to learn more about the snows point lodge you can do so here: https://www.stgeorgemaine.com/page/snows-point-lodge
Or if you heard the pitch but couldn’t donate online because of the service in port Clyde, here’s a link to the donate page: https://donate.stripe.com/aFa8wR2Sy6Eg9swfLr7AI00
Please remember to like our Facebook page to keep up to date with the project progress. You can also sign up for text and email updates from the town here: https://www.stgeorgemaine.com/forms/subscribe-for-updates

UPDATE: Some keen detective work in the town office has located the phone's owner, and it's being mailed back to her today.
Do you recognize this phone? It was found at the Adam Ezra concert last night. Drop by the town office and confirm the log in code and we'll let you have it. Please feel free to share this post.

In the upper right-hand corner of this pic you'll see 72-57 in red pen. That means this was the 57th building permit issued in 1972. It was also the last building permit of 1972. And 1972 is the last year we have paper records of building permits. And why is this here? This is the last permit being scanned into the town's iWorq database. With this last permit, all the town's building and plumbing permits now are available in the digital realm. Would you like to see past permits on your property? We can email them to you. Are you buying a property and what to see what's been done? We can look up everything with a couple clicks--all the way back to 1972.

Staffed with friendly guys. Efficient. Well maintained, and well run. All these things could be said about our transfer station. And now, "award winning" gets added to the list. We understand they just barely beat out the Girl Scouts. "I was going to congratulate them on their win," said station manager Ben Caron "but since we won, I'm showing them no mercy. They have enough awards." That Ben! He's all business (but all heart too).

Your bilge pump battery croaked, you are out of town, and your boat is sitting low in the water. You need to borrow some chairs and tables from the fire department for the family reunion. You found a skiff washed up on the shore, and are trying to find the owner. Who can help? Ryan Cline! In addition to all his harbor master duties, he's a key component of the Port Clyde Landing project, and he spends much time there. (In fact, you might even see him chalking tires and busting overtime parkers.) And on top everything, he's got that tan! Thanks for being a good guy, Ryan.

"Why do I have to change my plate?" "I like the chickadee." "We voted down the flag, so they're forcing it on our plates." "That doesn't look like a pine tree. It looks more like a Christmas tree with the star on top." We've had lots of feedback on the new license plates, and most people seem to prefer the ol' chickadee. The thing is, the chickadee plates have been issued for more than 25 years!

“License plates need to be easily visible by other drivers, toll authorities, and law enforcement,” said Secretary of State Shenna Bellows. “As anyone driving on Maine roads can see, some of the older Chickadee plates are becoming worn, faded, and difficult or impossible to read, and that presents a real safety issue. But it also presents an opportunity for something fresh and new, and we’re looking forward to the new plates.”

What do YOU think? Do you like the new pine tree plates? Or do you prefer the chickadess?

We have two notaries public here at the town office. Assessor's Assistant Magan Wallace and Finance Director Irene Ames both offer their notary services during business hours here at the town office. This is a service they perform for the benefit of the citizenry; they don't collect fees or get a bonus in their pay. They do it because they're good people. If you need a notary, it's best to call first to make sure one of them is here; and if one is, they're happy to serve you in their notary capacity.
