Tax Bill Sample

The mailing of tax bills has been delayed this year. Our new assessors' agent has been catching up on the backlog of visits left over from the untimely departure of our previous agent. She had about 350 site visits that needed to be completed before commitment. (Commitment is "...a document containing the value, tax due, and official documents related to the property in a municipality.") Once her visits were completed, and the Select Board set the mil rate, we sent the tax information to the printing/mailing service. In past years those folks have needed about 24 hours to turn that info into paper bills and get them in the mail. This year, for whatever reason, it took them over a week. On Tuesday, Sept. 9th, they informed us the bills are in the mail.

The town warrant, voted on by the town at the annual town meeting, set the due date of the first tax payment as Sept. 30th. That isn't changing. However, the Select Board, realizing that your notification of what your tax obligation is has been delayed by a month, has voted to not apply interest to accounts until November 1st. Going forward the town will endeavor to have tax bills mailed by August 1st each year.
