Basketball News: Registration-
many of you have registered your children for basketball at the same
time you registered them for soccer. If your child did not play
soccer, please remember to register your child for basketball. As
always, you can do so online through the P&R website, or on paper at
the school or town office.
Registration deadlines are as follows:
3rd/4th - December 5th
K-2 - Jan. 9th
5th/6th Season Information-
this is incomplete information for now, but for planning purposes,
practices for our 5th/6th teams will begin the week of November 16th and
league play will start December 5th. Practice schedules are posted on the calendar below and on the Rec Board at the St. George School. Game Schedules will likely be available right after Thanksgiving.
3rd/4th and K-2 - For those looking way ahead, 3rd/4th practices will begin theweek
of December 7th and games will likely begin the Dec. 12. Don't forget the 3-4 clinics December 5th! K-2 clinics
will be held Saturdays in January beginning January 9th.
Coaching and Refereeing - if you have a background in basketball and would like to contribute,
please consider either coaching or refereeing youth basketball. We have
a need for referees for grades 3-6 and for coaches at all levels. If
you are interested, please contact P&R Director Ben Vail. The
deadline for coaching applications is Friday, November 6th. All
applicants are reviewed by the P&R Committee.
Boston Celtics Tickets Update: The St. George Parks and Recreation trip to see the Celtics against the Houston Rockets on March 11 will go on sale after Monday, December 7th. We are just waiting for the tickets to arrive before putting them on sale. Tickets for the game and the bus ride are $ 75.00 each. The first 14 kids ages 7-14 who have not already participated will be “Anthem Buddies” and be on the court with the Celtics players for the National Anthem. All ticket sales are final and tickets can only be purchased with cash or check made out to St. George Recreation at the St. George Town Office.

Parks & Recreation Committee Information

The Parks & Recreation Committee shall oversee all resources,
facilities & programs of a recreational nature, strive to maintain
and improve the physical and mental fitness of the community, and
administer, in cooperation with the Town Manager, the recreational
programs to include all segments of the community on a year round basis.
Past P & R Committee responsibilities have included, but have not been limited to:
Monthly committee meetings with the P & R Director for updates & idea sharing.
Participate in department sponsored events as much a possible (IE; Saturday basketball games, events, fund raisers, etc.)
Assist in event set-up, operations, clean-up & fund raising whenever possible.
Help promote and advertise the department’s events & offerings
Follow the department’s “Mission Statement”, “Core Values” & “Vision Statement”
Respect and adhere to the department’s policies and guidelines.
Promote good sportsmanship, fair play & leadership by example
Assist in recruiting volunteer coaches, umpires, referees, and other helpers
The Parks & Rec. Committee consists of seven voting members and
two or more alternate members that are appointed annually by the Select
The Parks & Rec. Director attends the monthly P & R Committee
meetings to update members on activities and to coordinate efforts to
further the goals of the Committee.
Volunteer applications for the P & R Committee and all
coaching positions are available for printing in the column to the right
St. George Parks & Recreation Department is responsible for scheduling, prepping and maintaining multiple fields, courts, parks and playgrounds for the many spring, summer & fall youth sports activities, teams & leagues.
The P & R department also organizes, oversees & maintains local winter youth basketball teams and leagues from 3rd-6th grade. We host the traditional "Mussel Ridge Hoops Basketball Tournament" for 3rd/4th graders in March as well as offer free basketball & soccer clinics for children in kindergarten, first and second grade.
In addition, the department organizes, oversees and sponsors programs for adults and local senior citizens.
The Parks & Recreation Department's offerings for "St. George Days" include the Marshall Point 5K Lighthouse Loop, The Old Timers Softball Game and the return of the Dunk Tank!
