St George Temporary Community Emergency Shelter

In the event of a natural or man-made disaster, the Fire Department Training Room will serve as the temporary emergency community shelter. The facility is located adjacent to the Town Office at: 3 School Street | Tenants Harbor, ME 04860

The facility is equipped with a generator, is "pet friendly", and is staffed by trained volunteers who live within walking distance of the center and are prepared to respond quickly. The shelter may be open for hours or for days depending on the nature of the emergency. During an emergency, please be aware of the needs of neighbors and visitors to St George.

If you have a medical issue during a disaster and require transportation, please call 911.

If you know that you will require transportation to the shelter in the event of a disaster, please call (207) 372-8581.

Declaring the Shelter Open

Upon orders from the Emergency Management Director, the shelter will open to the St George community.

Announcement of the shelter opening will be available by:

  • Local radio stations
  • An announcement on this website
  • Calling the Maine toll free 211 hot-line (staffed 24/7)
  • Visiting the Maine 2-1-1 website
