Comprehensive Planning Committee

Responsibilities

The Comprehensive Plan Committee is convened at regular intervals to revise the official Saint George Comprehensive Plan document, also known as the "Long-Range Plan" or “Plan”.

The Comprehensive Plan Committee shall prepare a review of the Long-Range Plan for presentation to the Select Board, at least every ten years. 

Any expenditure for planning, studying, and consulting pertaining to development of a Long-Range Plan shall be raised within the Town of St. George's annual operating budget.

Responsibilities of the Committee as it prepares a draft Plan:

  1. Plan Development: Collaborate in the creation and updating of the town's Plan as required by State law, considering factors such as land use, economic development, natural resources, transportation, housing, and community facilities
  2. Prepare an Inventory of town resources requiring management pursuant to the Comprehensive Plan
  3. Community Engagement: Seek input from town residents, businesses, and stakeholders through various channels like public meetings, surveys, and interviews to identify community needs and priorities
  4. Data Analysis: Collect and analyze relevant data, trends, and demographics to inform the planning process and ensure accuracy in the Comprehensive Plan
  5. Goal Setting: Establish clear goals and objectives for the Plan based on community input and identified needs, outlining a vision for the town's future
  6. Policy Recommendations: Formulate policy recommendations and strategies to address identified issues and achieve the established goals, ensuring alignment with local, state, and federal regulations
  7. Coordination with Stakeholders: Collaborate with local government officials, agencies, and organizations to coordinate efforts and ensure consistency between the Plan and other municipal initiatives
  8. Public Outreach: Keep the community informed about the planning process, updates, and opportunities for input to maintain transparency and engagement
  9. Implementation Schedule: Work with relevant departments, committees, and agencies to map out how and when the Plan's goals will be implemented
  10. Evaluation Schedule:  Plan goals will be evaluated at least every 5 years
  11. Communication with Decision-Makers: Present the draft Plan to the Select Board and State authorities for input and approval; hold a public hearing to present the Plan to the community, and then submit the Plan to voters for final adoption
